What to expect in a Musculoskeletal Initial Physiotherapy Consult?
Before we proceed with any questioning or assessment, we will first gain your consent. If you are not comfortable with answering, or having an assessment, please let your therapist know.
Rest assured that everything you discuss during your sessions, will stay between you and your physiotherapist. If you would like us to share information with other medical professionals that you are working with, we will do so under your written consent.
In order to link your current concern/s to what you would like to achieve, we will guide you with questions and listen intently to your history and story.
Questions will explore your past medical history, mechanism of injury, aggravating, easing factors, your goals and more.
From your history, Femme Physios will start to put the puzzle pieces together and will already have an idea of what could potentially be going on. We will explain these issues in non medical language you’ll understand and will recommend an assessment to confirm what your diagnosis is.
Assessments will include testing global functional movements in relation to your injury e.g. if you’re a swimmer – looking at your swimming technique, if you’re a gym junkie, looking at your squat.
Then we’ll delve closer to testing the joint/s and muscles in play, testing your range of motion, strength, special tests, nerves and more.
Once we have gathered all the pieces in the puzzle, we’ll explain to you what is going on.
We will provide a tailored plan in how to reach towards your goal, providing an expectation of what steps you may take in order to reach your full potential! These steps can involve tailored exercise, manual therapy (dry needling, massage or joint work). You will leave feeling empowered and more knowledgeable in reaching your potential.
